Elder Spencer Davies - Letter Highlights |
||
| Dear Family: (Dad's editorial
input) (Spencer left the MTC on Tuesday December 6th, 2005. He was able to call us from the airport and we had a very long, happy conversation. He sounded so positive and is doing well. His last couple of letters from the MTC were not that newsy, but just "laundry list" type stuff, so I didn't post them. I learned a couple of things in the conversation: 1) Taipei is pronounced "Tie-Bay" not "Tie-Pay" Tai means bay. 2) Spencer will stay in the mission home for the first couple of days with all incoming missionaries.) Well everything is crazy here it Taiwan, but I love it. I love the people I want to help them so much. the Chinese really isn't the main problem, just having the spirit, because the I think my trainer told me that the reason the church has grown so much here is not because the Elders are really good at speaking Chinese. Obviously it’s the spirit, which is a good thing to think about, but the only problem is that sometimes the Chinese can be distracting from the spirit if it isn't said well. The guy I am with is so much nicer than the guys in the MTC. This place is way better than the MTC. I got a bike for 8500 kaui, and so it is about $250, or $200 bike. (253.709, but who's counting? see http://www.xe.com/ucc/ if you are interested) I painted it pink. We all paint them as I learned before, but I'm thinking about changing the color because its a little bit extreme. It’s the nicest bike I’ve ever owned I think. (they paint their bikes so people are not tempted to steal them).
The people here are so nice and all of them speak English, so
when I really need to say something I can say some words in
English and they will understand it, but that isn't really what
I'm supposed to do I'm supposed to speak Mandarin. I love
seeing the members here. Church was so cool because everybody is
really there for the right reasons. We have so many cool guys,
just studs here in the church. There’s this one member that is
rad chen(2) (the guy's name?).
He's the missionary coordinator, and he is really cool. He goes
to Costco for the missionaries, and he goes on member lessons,
and he is one of the counselors in the bishopric. Next week I
have to introduce myself at Sacrament meeting. The plane ride
was cool because we went to Japan, and I did some missionary
work there, so as I said I've gone on my mission to Japan. This
one member that fed us is really cool, we ate some food, it was
interesting, but I ate it. He got the Melchizedek Priesthood
this Sunday and he is so fun to be around, I almost cried while
at his house because I was so happy. I love you guys. I’ve got
two minutes left so I'll send this. Bye. |
