Elder Spencer Davies - Letter Highlights

Dear Family: (Spencer's Dad's editorial input)

I just got done with the party. (Noni sent a party box with 'Sponge Bob' party hats, treats, etc for a 'half-way through the MTC' party) We did the party in our room and it got a little more messy than it was before.  The party was really fun.  I at first thought "dang it, I don't know if I want to do this" but all the guys were like "Sweet party hats" and everything - but at first I didn't know if they would like it, or if they were "too cute" for it or something. But it was really a great success.
I did take some pictures but I don't know how to get them to you just yet.  I think I will develop some of them and send them to you.  Sorry I am so slow to respond in my letters.  I saw Robert Brotherson and he said to write you a while back (I don't know who that is?).  It was funny, but not for you.  The thing about writing a letter is I need to write all the answers to your questions and everything and say so much, so...  sometimes it just takes longer.

I don't remember all your questions in your letters but I do remember you did ask me to pick a scripture so I found one: Moroni 7:47. (For his missionary plaque to hang by the bishop's office).  That is good to have that all figured out now.  So far I have gained about 9 pounds.  I feel fat.  I also eat more than most at lunch.  In Taiwan if you do not eat a lot of the food it is offensive.  You just have to eat and eat and eat until you are full and then they don't get offended.

I just got back from seeing The Testaments (The one that was on Temple Square Legacy Theater) and also hearing Scott L. Anderson speak.  He spoke for the fireside.  I think everyone I talked to said he was the best speaker that we've had so far, or the best speaker they've had.  Its like one of those speakers that you just want to listen to all day long.  He told us stories of his mission.  And I've thought how much I want to tell the stories of my mission.  I want to be able to tell stories that are true, that invite the spirit, and motivate others to do more.  I hope this letter isn't too short.  It is really hard for me to focus here much of the time because I am distracted everyday by my past.  We are supposed to do as "Ye Elders of Israel" says to do. A ba bilun A Babi Inn  wonon  Yueali hi ... oh babylon "O Babylon we bid thee farewell"... I never knew it would be so hard to not sing the songs, or think of the movies of "Babylon."  I must go to the post office now my new companion wants to go. Love you people.  I am discouraged but hope to keep moving forward,

Love, Elder Spencer Davies
