Hello Family: (Spencer's Dad's
editorial input)
Tell Grandma (Olsen) that I
am getting her letter by an email or something.
is what she is using... they print it and deliver it to the MTC
since he can't use email in the MTC)
I have gained about 5-7 pounds since I've been here
(1-1/2 months). We have gym
but it just isn't enough sometimes.
My companion gets frustrated with me sometimes because he will
say things to me in Chinese and I won't understand him. He also
gets frustrated when I'm not so ready to teach the lesson on
Saturdays.

Today I got back from church....(he got
a new companion, Elder Miles) Tell James Spencer
(Greg's cousin who also went to Taiwan
on a mission) thank you for the letter. He wrote some
"pinyin" (Romanization of Chinese
writing... see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinyin
if you are interested...) in it and I was excited
because I could actually read it. The pinyin we are using here
however is a little bit different. "Elder" is not Zhang
(3) Lau (3). It is in our system Zhang (3) Lau (3) - but I
could still understand it. Wo(3) ke(3) yi(3) gi (2) dao
(3) zai (4) m.t.c wei (4) wo (3) de mu (4) dao (4) you (3)
(OK... I missed all of that. I think it
is pinyin. I couldn't read some of the lettering, but maybe
someone can translate?). Mo zhang lao
(My companion?) is really fun
to be around, he reminds me of a buhda. Hope things are
going well for you in Canada (Grandma
Olsen). The other day our district was kind of
discouraged because we were struggling with Chinese. Our
teacher pointed out the fact that it was Chinese, and that it is
amazing that we can speak some of it. SYL
(Speak Your Language - MTC program)
is really hard for me because I feel really lonely sometimes
when I am doing it. Our SYL goal has changed from three
days a week to seven...
