Elder Spencer Davies - Letter Highlights |
||
| Dear Gentry and the whole
family: (Spencer's Dad's
editorial input) Thanks for your letter, Braedon and for the comic. I just went to the Provo Temple a few hours ago. It was good. The Celestial room is nothing like it is in the Salt Lake Temple. I'm thinking of a scripture for my plaque, don't pick it yet (Our ward has mission plaques that are displayed... we can't order it until he picks a scripture) On P-Day I made the mistake of not getting my laundry in the right machine. The thing that is messed up is that there's no room for mistakes because time to do things is so limited because you always should be with your companion. I just am beginning to realize how hard it is to keep this rule... going to the bathroom with them all the time, but I know there is a reason why it should be done. I did meet Elder Mo from Jennifer Spencer's Ward (Greg's Aunt from Edmonton Alberta, Canada) he sleeps in the same building that I do. We are supposed to be able to tell the first discussion in Chinese by the end of the week (or a while ago!) October 16th 2005 I have made a promise with my teacher to do SYL ('Speak Your Language' AKA 'Show Your Love') So I'm kind of quiet right now because I'm trying to say everthing in Chinese but I can fill in the blanks with English that I don't know. It is still quite difficult. It was much of a wast to study Chinese characters-but I guess it's nice. It's just that understanding the logic of the language is rather difficult sometimes. In my studies before I remember "xiaoxin" "small heart" is what the two characters mean. It means, put together, however "be careful" which I guess could kind of make sense to some but it means that I could know 5,000 characters and not know how to use them correctly. So basicall it's just best to speak it first from the romanization. Anyways... October 20th 2005 Basicall they have different districts going in and out of our Branch every 6 weeks because every 6 weeks we usually have a transfer. I'm going to be staying with my companion, Elder Peila. Elder is a word I don't hear a lot because we say Elder in Chinese to each other. The only thing is if we don't do the correct tones for "Elder" we say "Cockroach" which isn't really what we want to say. Thank you for the tape player. I got the hymn book and the two other packages. Thanks so much. Sorry I didn't make a tape this time. I am getting along better with my companion... October 21st 2005 So today means I've been here for a month now. Quite amazing it is. The tape that you guys have me was really fun to lilsten to. I think I will mail this today. My P-Days are on Thursday. I have to drop off the letter now, bye. Love, Elder Spencer Davies |
