Ben Cummins & Greg

Greg posing as King

Chuck, Greg, Steve & Ryan

I got a call Wednesday at 8pm to go to a 4:15AM Thursday cast call... Wow, another adventure!
My good friend Chuck Baker (The fiddler in the Nauvoo Pageant) gave casting coordinator Ben Cummins (Heber C. Kimball in the 2006 Nauvoo Pageant) my name as someone that could help on short notice.  I called my neighbor Ryan Snow and Nauvoo Pageant friend Steve Richards to come along.  These were the only two crazy enough to come on such short notice!  We had to go to Provo to catch the Bus to the West Desert for filming all day long.

The project is for the LDS Church and is a joint effort of the CES (Church Education System), the Audio Visual department, the Missionary Department and one other department. It is the biggest project the Church has ever undertaken. It will be used in Seminaries by Summer 2007 and will be available to each home in the Church by 2008. It will be translated into 37 languages and will be used in many Church films, etc. It will consist of 460 separate movie clips that will be used for teaching in the home.

Here are some of the pictures

Here are some of the Videos I took:

Breakfast is served

In fact, they fed us all day. There were always fruit, driks, treats and snacks available at all times!

We first had to got to costuming to get our robes, helmets & shoes, etc.

Then it was off to Makeup. They put on an "instant tan"

Here is the final tanned look

Costuming was very organized

However finding things like shoes you had to wear for 14 hours was sometimes interesting

With the helmet, I was starting to look like a real soldier!

Here's my "GQ" profile

Ryan got the "hot" leather vest...

and a Mullet. I ended up teasing him all day about it.

The Chariots and horses on the set

Very cool camera boom

The actual set we were shooting on

The tent in the background was the King's tent

The riders next to the Chariot

Directors & Staff

Weapons of war

The weapons people picked out appropriate weapons for us

Very cool arrow satchels

The swords were especially cool

We never really ended up using our shields

Here is the first of our soldier group posing after costuming was complete

I had to pose by this set of props. The church got them years ago. They were from the set of the original 10 Commandment movie. Cool!

Ryan sporting is very real sword

Check out the glint from the metal. Do I look tough or what?

OK, inside the King's tent was very cool. I don't think we were supposed to be in here, so we took lots of pictures very quickly!

The Kings Chambers in the second compartment of the tent

Cool chair. Where do they get this stuff?

The "Throne" room

The props were incredible

The king's bed

It was hot outside so we were glad to have such a nice place to rest... like a king!

Ryan catching some Z's.. not really, just looked like it.

He would have made a good Goliath. A Goliath with a Mullet!

Steve in Repose

It's good to be King.  Posing here on the King's throne with a cool scroll

Pretender to the throne!

Steve taking a turn on the throne

A King has a lot on his mind

Studying the battle plan maps

Notice the pensive finger...

Being King can be tiring

Oh the rough life...

Sometimes a King has to use this sword

OK, I really didn't do any beheading.. just knowing that I could has King!

I was dubbing Richard a knight

Another extra wanted some pictures... can't remember his name!

Some fellow soldier extras

Check out the two tone hair

Soldiers need rest

Greg as King again

Do I look mean or what?

Chuck Sleep-standing.

Steve waiting for the next take

Chuck & Steve Smiling even though it was pretty hot and dusty

Chuck, Greg, Steve & Ryan

Full battle gear

The 10 Commandment props

Chuck was one of the guards at the Kings Tent... not too good if you ask me... we all snuck in and took pictures!

Waiting for the chariot to come in with the fatally wounded King.  Who gets his tent when the King dies... I could live there!  Does it come with the servants?

Ryan "Mullet" Snow

This was actually a real dead goat they got from a local slaughter house. Yuck

I had to pose over the goat. It must be a "guy thing."

I really didn't kill it.. honest!

Greg & Richard posing by the 10 Commandment props

Ryan taking a break

Richard posing by the 10 Commandment props

Greg by the antique props

I had to get this one. The pink umbrella didn't seem to go well with the tough-guy soldier theme.

The got not looking too well

Ryan was a good sport. I don't think he knew what he was getting into!

This is the King with the Arrow sticking out of him.

Preparing for the scene

Rolling... Sound Check.. Marker... Action!
